Caerdydd, Wales

Jesse & I have been hanging out in Wales for the last month. We've had the honor of meeting and chillin with several really lush people. I'm ashamed to say before we got here I really didn't know anything at all about the culture, history and people of Wales even though whenever I saw it on the map ever since I was little it always intrigued me. I knew about the Welsh Revival in the early 1900's and that Princess Diana was from here, but thats about it. Since we've been here though I've completely fallen in love with this tiny country with a big heart.

I'll take you on a little photographic journey of our time here so far!

outside Cardiff Castle our first day here, fresh off the bus from London

a park right around the corner from Cardiff Castle. i found this little stone circle around an evergreen tree with daffodils everywhere

our friend we are staying with is a DJ and this was at his gig one night in downtown Cardiff...this rad saxophone player showed up, i think he was from Spain, and totally rocked the place

this part of wales has the 2nd highest tides in the world. pretty intense!

there are dozens of bible translations in the attic (our room) including 2 of my favorites: the Knox and the Complete Jewish Bible

there is no shortage of great literature here! 2 books i am currently absorbed in: Wild Wandering
and

Better a breadcrust shared in love than a slab of prime rib served in hate...

This morning I woke up with the urge to buy gallons of sparkling water to try and drink away this blah sickess I've had for a few days. As I was on my way out the door I felt drawn to this one particular market that I really didn't want to go, but have learned not to ignore the little prodings of the heart, so off I went. When I got to the entrance of the shop there was a homeless man right outside the door, I knew instantly he was why I was drawn there. Only having £5 on me I wasn't sure I'd be able to do much. I ended up getting him some rotissary chicken, freshly baked chocolate crossiants and a massive bottle of mineral water. When I walked over to the man he immidiatly starting talking really fast in Italian, from what I could gather he just started telling me his life story. He was just really excited to have someone treat him with respect, the hot meal was a bonus as well! I stood there for a few minutes, he talked to me in Italian and I answered in Spanish - which seemed like a better option then English, then went on my way.

That experience this morning combined with something my brother said yesterday in reference to Valentines Day just made me want to speak out for a moment on behalf of people who hardly ever have a voice.

"Love everyone, not just the people close to you. Try buying a box of chocolates for a homeless person or something, you have no idea how much that will impact their life!~"
-Chad

I, myself have never been straight up homeless; but I have spent more then a few nights sleeping in the car (in 20* weather) no other place to stay, only wanting a hot meal and a hot shower but not having the means to get one. And I have spent a night or two on the streets. I do understand to an extremely small degree what homeless people go through every day.

There is no reason to avoid them like the plague. All I ask is that every once in a while put yourselves in their shoes. If you were sitting outside in the cold with no money to buy anything, hadn't eaten eaten in days and someone bought you a hot meal how stoked would you be? Next time you're going into the supermarket and you see someone sitting outside who pulls on your heart, just ask if there is anything they need? Most of us are blessed beyond belief and can spare eating our favorite meal that night to get someone who has a legit need something they need and might not have the money to get for weeks.

Not everyone on the streets has the backstory most of us assume they have. On one trip to Panama City Beach, FL; Jesse and I met a guy sitting in front of Walmart and we really felt compassion for him and took him shopping then out to dinner. Over the course of the next few hours he told us his story. He worked for the Department of Defense for several years, he was an extremely intelligent man. Him and his (ex) fiance took a trip to Panama City for vacation. She ended up taking off with his car, ridiculoulsy expensive hi-tech laptop, money, everything. 3 months later is when we ran into him. I meet an Iranian woman in Hunstville, AL who came over from Iran, hit a rough spot and all of a sudden she found herself with no where to go except the streets because she knew no one.
When I see men or women in the streets I see the people I love in them. If my mom or dad somehow ended up in the streets and for some reason I wasn't around to take them in, how would I want people to treat them? I definitely wouldn't want people spitting on them or making fun.

One thought that runs through my mind quite possibly at least once a day is something said by Yeshua

The merciful will be shown mercy

I want to sow mercy into the lives of others so that one day when I need it I will reap the harvest of mercy I have sown.

Anyway, I hope maybe this will stir compassion in your hearts for some of the strangers in our everyday life. I love you all!
do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers. be ready with a meal or a bed when it is needed. some have even extended hospitality to angels without ever knowing it!

The very steps we take come from God; otherwise how would we know where we're going? -King Solomon

The last week or two here have been really awesome. I'm loving being immersed in a different culture, I was not expecting England to be sooooo different from the US; but it DEFINITELY is! I love it though. Although there are a few things I could do without, for example showers that are so tiny you have to stand sideways in and washing machines and dryers that are in the kitchen? and I mean TINY kitchens, ones you can already barely move around in. The washer and dryer just chill under the counter space...its really strange. Other then that I love England! The British Academy Film awards are here next week and I'm really wishing I had a way to go, but maybe one day. Its also as always interesting to see your country though the eyes of other cultures. One thing that makes me really sad is that almost always the first question people ask is if its true that our food is 'Super-sized'. They get really REALLY excited about that, especially the kids; but then I was trying to explain to them that super sized food = super sized people, so it really doesn't end up being that awesome in the long run. But they don't care, they just want to eat massive hamburgers, pounds of french fries and gallons of milkshakes! It was kinda cute in a way...

We've had some really awesome moments since we've been here. One night Jesse and I went to Dover Bar in West London where one of our newfound friends was singing. Now, we just met her on the way to the Bar through a mutual friend. We knew nothing about her except she is a really sought after singer here in the UK and has sung with Mariah Carey and others. Thats all we knew, oh and that she is a Christian. We ended up talking to her for about 5-6 hours that night and God's presence just completely flooded that place. From the moment we sat down, God told her several things about us that there is no way she could have known and vice-versa. We spent most the night prophesying over each other. But it was sooo intesnse! Jesse pretty much answered every single thing she has asked God that night before in prayer! Even down to when we were standing up, putting our coats on to walk out the door, Jesse got one more word for her and she just started crying, saying that was the very last thing she asked God right before she went to bed the night before! God used our story of the last 2 years of our lives living by faith to take her out of the last 2 1/2 year dark season she was in. It ended that night!! Simply by us telling her our story! As a kid, she grew up in church and met a guy, I think she was in middle school, maybe high school, anyway this guys said he was sick. She knew God still heals people today so she prayed for the man. He came back later and said that he had been completely healed! When she asked what he had, he said 'Full blown AIDS'. How awesome is that!!!! Same thing happened with another person who had cancer. Sad part about this story is when she testified in front of her church, they told her to quit wasting her time and get back to her school books. She has such an awesome calling on her life and has such a call to the music industry!! She is a beautiful person inside and out and I'm very honored to be able to call her my friend and that God would use us in her life they way he did, and she has been a great encouragement to me as well!

A few days after that night we headed over to a friends house for the weekend. She is a single mom and has 3 kids. We knew there was a serious connection there from the first time we met and that it was a very God-ordained meeting; but we were about to discover exactly just how much of a life changing moment it was about to be! I think one of the main parts of this story is her 13 yr old son, who is very appropriately named, Josiah Samuel. When we showed up at the house Saturday night he really didn't want anything to do with God or Christianity or anything like that, and I don't really blame him. The secular world was far more interesting to him. Jesse won him over instantly him over when he said 'pissed' at some point cause apparently that's a cuss word over here! Josiah was very intrigued by these tatted, pierced Christians who say 'pissed'. So from then on we had a captive audience! hahaaaa...it doesn't take much! In all seriousness though, kid had a lot goin on. Since God has called him to be a seer prophet he has a gift of tapping into the Spirit realm and seeing stuff in the natural that most people don't see. At least a couple times a week he was seeing some pretty gruesome stuff manifesting to him just as real as you see the computer screen in front of you. To the point where he hadn't slept in his own room for 6 months. I'm not going to go into much detail but he was really on the fast track down a very very dangerous path and all the while not really wanting God. But God was definitely after him! God opened the door one night to talk to all 3 of her kids very openly about the spirit realm, open doors, and the fact that the only way you have authority over the demonic is Jesus. They pretty much sat there wide eyed for a few hours as we answered all the questions they had about what they had been experiencing. As we talked you could just see the different demonic spirits being broken off of Josiah and by the end of the conversation, even though he didn't say anything out loud you could just see it all over him that he really wanted to change his life. By the next morning, he was a completely new person!! He walked different, talked different, was respectful and kind. When he walked out the door to go to school even his friend who was waiting for him at the front door looked at him like he had lost mind!! She had just seen him the night before but it was obvious that something had changed!!

This is just a tiny, tiny, tiny part of what all God did that weekend in this family! To top it off this weekend there is an awesome group of people coming from Wales to minister in her town, Justin Abraham and the 'Wildfire team' for the Wildfire Islands Tour. Definitely all God's timing! So we are all going there, even her 3 kids who are super stoked about it. Especially Josiah who since last weekend, has apparently gotten rid of a lot of stuff from his room, cleaned it up (spiritually and physically) and moved back in! After 6 months of sleeping on the couch he is finally comfortable sleeping in his own room again! Her oldest daughter a few days ago saw a demon manifesting outside the window to the backyard (they can't get inside anymore!) and just told it to leave in the name of Jesus and it left! She learned she had authority in Jesus and didn't have to put up with that nonsense!

Its been so much fun just letting God bring us to people and the mutual encouragement that comes from that! Yesterday was pretty cool. We went to Hillsong London for church that morning then went exploring. First the British Museum, I'm gonna have to go back one day and just spend the entire day in the Medieval Europe exhibits! Saw the Rosetta Stone and a 4,000 yr old mummy which was honestly kinda creepy. Then we went to China Town where they were having their New Year Celebration, yay for Year of the Rabbit! Lots of people were walking around with Kung Fu Panda burger king type crowns on. Then it was Piccadilly Circus or the 'mini-Times Square of London'. Its also where a lot of the theatres are. We met up with one of my mom's friends from Costa Rica and her husband for an Italian Dinner. It was sooooo nice to just relax and hang out with them. It was an added bonus that they were ticos!

God has been so good to us on this trip, and to think we've only been here 3 weeks! We still have about 5 months to go!! Its gonna be awesome!

If you'll hold onto me for dear life, says God
I'll get you out of any trouble.
I'll give you the best of care
if you'll only get to know and trust me.
Call to me and I'll answer, be at your side in bad times;
I'll rescue you then throw you a party!
I'll give you long life,
give you a long drink of salvation!

London Calling...

So how did I end up in London? It all started back in May '10 when I had a really detailed, vivid dream about flying to Europe. Some friends of mine were on the plane, including one guy that I didn't know at the time, but met not to long after the dream. The dream stuck with me so much that I knew sooner than later I'd be in Europe. By the end of May, Jesse and I had moved to Nashville. I could write a whole book just on our time in Nashville! We were living in a house in east Nashville with 5 other people, 3 of them guys in some big time bands in the music scene there, 1 massive doberman named Gambit and wayy too many cats (5). The day we got to the house, we spent hours talking to Emma (one our friends/roomies) and all the we could talk about was Europe in January. I'm not even sure if I had told her my dream at this point. She just started going off about how she saw us in Europe in January. Either way it was getting really obvious that something was going to happen in January. As the months went on, Jesse, Emma and I took a roadtrip out west, ending up in San Diego...I really, really really wanted to move there begnning of 2011. By that point I had kinda given up hope on Europe; but during a phone conversation with my mom, in October, I told her we'd probably be in San Diego in Jan, "Well if we're not in Europe" which came out of nowhere, cause by now I didn't think it was going to happen. Time went on, Thanksgiving came and went; but the knowing that very soon I'd be in Europe intensified to the point where on Dec. 17 I started getting some stuff together and making lists of everything that Jesse and I would need to buy for the trip. Actually, the reason I did this was because in the dream I had, there wasn't much time for preparation, everything was very rushed and when I got on the plane I didn't have anything I needed because of how rushed everything was. So I took the warning to heart and began to prepare even though we had no money. 3 days later, Jesse and I were handed a check for $3000 to go to Europe!! I was relieved to discover that I wasn't crazy all along and we really were going to Europe in January!
Our flight for 1/11 was cancelled due to the freak snow storms taking over the south. I was extremely relieved by the cancellation, since I really had a terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach about flying out on the 11th. We rebooked our flights for the 13th. At this point we still had no idea what we were going to do once we landed. After buying everything we needed for the trip: backpacks, passports, warm clothes, plane tickets...all we had was $30 to get some food during our layover in Atlanta and €130 Emma had left over from her time in Italy. We did have a hotel for the first night but after that we had not a clue as to what to do. A day or 2 before we left God told us that we were to go to Cambridge, and he led us online to a church he wanted us to go to. The 13th came and we headed to the Nashville Airport. Oh and a way cool side note....we were flying to London on the same day that our 2 friends (from my dream) Munday Martin and Jesse Shamp were flying from Northern Ireland back to Nashville, and on the same Airline. How rad is that!
During our (10) hour layover in Atlanta, Jesse and I both were internally completely freaking out, even though we didn't say anything to each other. Freaking out to the point where we almost didn't even get on our flight to London. We were going to Europe for 5 months with pretty much no money and no idea what we were going to do. But we both had the overwhelming feeling that it would be far worse for us to not get on that plane. The scripture 'Obedience is better than sacrifice' comes to mind. So as hard as it was we got on the plane. During the flight we met a pastor from London, as the plane was landing he handed us all of his contact info. We really didn't think anything was going to come of it so we just headed over to our hotel and passed out from jet lag.
The next morning we woke up and rushed to the coach station to catch the coach to Cambridge. By now it was Saturday morning and all we knew was that we were supposed to go to that church the next day. We arrived in Cambridge and walked all over the place trying to find a B&B. Cambridge is absolutely amazing...especially to a history buff like me. Its were the Kings of old went to study, where evolution and atheism were born, even the ancestor tree of the tree Sir Isaac Newton was sitting under as the apple fell on his head and the laws of gravity were articulated is there.
We woke up Sunday morning, packed our bags again and headed to church. Since we had such a long walk to get to the church, we arrived kinda late but just in time to hear the pastor talking about Hebrews 11, which has been our theme chapter for this trip. At the end of the service the pastor, youth pastor and others came up to us and asked us what we were doing and we told them a little bit. Everyone we talked to (including the pastor and youth pastor) asked us if we had anywhere to stay that night. We didn't so we said 'No, we don't' and every one of them said 'Oh ok' and walked away. Which was fine by us, we know God takes care of us regardless; but we were really hurt for the church. Especially because even before we left the states I strongly felt like we were supposed to talk to the pastor and be an encouragement to him and his congregation since we were living what they were preaching. I was extremely glad that I was as solid in God as I am, and didn't have any people with me who don't believe in God cause it was really really depressing. We left the church and walked a few blocks to a beautiful cathedral called Our Lady Peace and Church of the Martyrs of England. We sat inside and it was so peaceful. It was very refreshing after what had just happened. We sat and listened for what God wanted to do next. All we heard was to go eat dinner at Pizza Hut and God told me "Now you go to the Gentiles", but I didn't know what that meant at the time. So with the last of our money we headed over to Pizza Hut.
Not knowing what else to do, after dinner we settled down in the park for the night. We sat there for a few hours and every time I opened my Bible to a page it landed on really intense scriptures that were exactly what we needed to hear. And God was speaking to Jesse about when times get tough will we look back to Egypt (where even though the Israelites were slaves they had shelter & food) or look to where He is going; which was really intense.
I had already decided not to long after we sat down that if it started raining I was going to go over to the Best Western and ask if we can sit in the lobby and wait it out. Well of course it did start to rain and thats exactly what we did. But after about 10 min it was way too awkward so we decided to leave. As we were leaving Jesse started talking to the guy behind the front desk who felt terrible that we didn't have anywhere to stay. He disappeared for a minute then came back and handed us an address. He said "My mom has a spare room, and said you are more than welcome to stay with her!" This was awesome cause earlier in the day I felt like someone had a spare room we were going to stay in because their son no longer lived at home! We walked back across town to her house. She was extremely hospitable and kind to us from the second we got to her front door, we stayed with her for 3 nights. It was actually a really interesting dynamic. The woman didn't like Americans, hated Christians and kept 'joking' about poisoning us. But she even said herself she was probably the only person in all of Cambridge who would have taken us in. We kept asking God if we were supposed to minister to her; He said not to worry about it and just pray over her and the house and bless her. It was a really interesting few days!
We left her house Wednesday morning and headed over to St. Barnabas Church were Rolland Baker was ministering that night! For those of you who have never heard of Rolland or his wife Heidi...definitely check them out! They are completely transforming the country of Mozambique http://www.irismin.org/
We did get to minister to some people at the church who were extremely encouraged by our story of how God has us living by faith. One guy was actually from Ohio and he and his family have been living by faith for a few months. He wrote in his journal only a night or two earlier that he really wanted to live this life of faith but that is was hard and asked God to bring him people who were living by faith as well. As the meeting ended we knew we were supposed to get on a bus to somewhere but we didn't know where to. We had enough money for a night at a hotel and bus tickets but God told us not to get a place for the night. By this point it was almost midnight so we got some Mediterranean take-out and sat in a particular bus stop that I felt we were supposed be at. As we ate our food we were getting frustrated. Knowing we were supposed to get on a bus but not knowing where to. We almost just got on a bus to Scotland! About 3am we realized we were supposed to go to London. God told Jesse we needed to get off the coach at the first stop. (Oh and the bus stop I was drawn to earlier was the one we needed to get to London). We didn't realize it then but the stop we were to get off at was the part of London where the pastor lived. The one we had met on our flight to London. We got to London, got into a hotel (which we wouldn't of had money for if we had gotten a place to stay the night before!) and emailed the pastor just letting him know we were in town.
As we were literally walking out the door of our hotel room the next day for check out the phone rang and it was the pastor. He said he had a flat in town and already had it prepared for us even before asking if we wanted stay there! He said we could stay there and use it a base for the rest of our travels in Europe! Which Jesse had actually described this whole situation to a T our last day in Cambridge. He said someone would have a flat in London we could stay at and they would let us use it as a base for the rest of our travels!
We've had a lot of exciting things happen this last week....but this is already a massive post so I will just write about it later!

the fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. it's our handle on what we can't see. the act of faith is what distinguished our our ancestors, set them above the crowd. by faith, we see the world called into existence by God's word, what we see created by what we don't see.

//The Path of the Sun//

In August, Emma, Jesse & I packed up the car {again} almost at the spur of the moment. We were headed out west. Since this was my first time out there, I drove along Historic Route 66 most of the time - stopping at almost every old abandoned town. I was kinda dissapointed that I didn't get to see any of the really creepy ghost towns. The ones you see in the movies where a bunch of teenagers roadtrippin break down and walk to this old abandoned town only to find out its inhabited by zombies and vampires. I guess I'll have to find those on my next drive out west. But for now these were pretty gnarly.

{echoes of forgotten voices}

Our first stop was Los Lunas, New Mexico about 30 min south of Albuquerque. We stayed there the weekend with one of my mom's friends. They had met only 3 weeks earlier in Mozambique/South Africa during a 2 week trip there with Georgian & Winnie Banov and Heidi & Rolland Baker. In the picture below are the Manzana (Apple) Mountains. I have yet to figure out why they have that name. The next group of mountains over are the Sandia (Watermelon) Mtn. Someone really liked fruit.

{the view from the house we were staying at}

One night we went out to dinner at a mansion from the 1800's...and since I'm a sucker for old mansions I was thrilled.

We finally made it to our destination. Patricia King's New Media Fest. It was a week long extravaganza for actors, screen writers, directors, producers, ect.

From Arizona, we headed to Apple Valley, CA to chill with some friends we made at the Media Fest. There it is with the fruit again. From there we drove to San Diego where we spent the next month with old and new friends alike. I completely fell in love with San Diego! But I guess it is kinda in my blood since that is where my dad was born and raised.

We stayed with some friends who lived at Pacific Beach. Their place was only a few blocks from the ocean so I was completely spoiled for about 2-3 weeks. It was there I had my 25th birthday in which everyone spoiled me all the more! I spent the days chillin at Pacific Beach, watching the surfers, trying to tan with a freezing cold ocean breeze blowing, hanging out at Balboa Park & the Gas Lamp District and I spent many a day in and out of all the amazing vegan and raw food joints that are bounteous in Cali!! I was pretty much in food heaven.

{Spanish Art Villa - Balboa Park}

{and of course Ron Burgandy was there, staring down at me from an apartment window over a restaurant, downtown SD near the Hillcrest district}

After 2 moths on the road it was time to say goodbye.
So we headed back to the east coast none of us wanting to leave but all knowing we'd be back.

The southwest has stolen our hearts forever.

//2009 In Pictures//

i guess excitement is in the realm of the expieriencer (apparently according to spell check that is not a word..too bad, it should be) but i believe I've had a pretty exciting life thus far....growing up in the paradise of Costa Rica, pristine beaches...surfing all day for weeks on end with a palm tree leaf hut as your only shelter and the starry host above as your canopy, kayaking through the rain forest (lost,with a leaky boat and crocs swimming next to you as night begins to fall), the best friends the world has to offer, fresh pineapple for under $1 as compered to the depresssing $4 pinas here in the good 'ol USA, no enforced drinking age or entrance into bars/clubs (13 yr olds in a club....come on i know i did not look 18, i didn't even try to look older...) ok so maybe that really wasnt the best thing in the world but hey i turned out ok
anyway...after the 500th person asked me what i've been up to lately i figured i'd start a blog because i'm so all over the place i can barely keep up with my self...
so here is the last year of my life in pictures to update everyone out there in cyber world-

kickin it at the Renaissance Faire with Allie with my beautiful locks i miss sooooooooo much but had to take out eventually cause apparently my hair grows SUPER fast and its not worth the time/effort to keep up with the new growth...R.I.P. locks

right before the wedding got my 4th tat...
props to KLee at Prophetic Ink in Murfreesboro, TN!!
even if i did drop a scolding hot pizza stone right out the oven onto the lotus flower (as you can see in the pic) but its ok! it healed perfectly even though i was afraid to look at my arm for 3 days cause i thought i had completely burned the tat off

july 7, 2009 married my wonderful husband jesse...
then we quit our jobs and hit the road!! (God said that after we got married to take a journey to New Hampshire....and thats what we did..we just went the long route but it was AWESOME!! trip of a life time for sure!) wayyyy to many stories for one blog...
and yes he wore shorts to our wedding, at my request

chillin in nashville with my brother and his girlfriend Lauren...i love nashville!!!! hopefully moving to east nashville sometime this year :)

Shenandoah National Park- Virginia
hiked to the top of a mountain with jesse, chad and my sis...barefoot
apparently its the new fad
good thing it was summertime

slept in the car one night in barely 30 degree weather in Jersey...i think i was delusional from lack of sleep in this picture....we had been in some crazy awesome worship sessions from10am-midnight for like a week straight and we still had about 4 weeks to go! it was crazy...but check out these awesome people we met...

New Haven, CT....fun town, cool people....ate at a Pizza Joint I saw on the Travel Channel and always wanted to go to...it was a momentous occasion in my life

ahhh yes...we made to Cape Cod, Plymouth Rock were our ancestors landed and proceeded to steal the land away from the Indians all in the name of freedom....way to go. i think that was a slightly unnecessary & over dramatic move but it wasn't my decision to make....but all in all i am grateful for my country...God put me here for a reason...

FINALLY>>>we reached our destination! The Pinnacle Prayer Mountain in New Hampshire! After all that traveling we ended up being in NH for only about a week but made some AWESOME friends and meet many people I hope to see again very soon....we shall return to the wonderful land of New Hampshire where it is 82% trees!! which means hardly any people, absolutely NO traffic and lots of beautiful unbridled wilderness...sounds like my kinda place
